After we saw the inner workings of neumorphism applied to Nike in the previous episode, came the idea we could experiment further with this new trend by adding a dark mode twist to it.
This is why we updated the traditional Airbnb signup flow to give it that special look while keeping usability in check. The main potential issue of neumorphism, which is the lack of contrast between layers, is offset here thanks to the bright red colour used strategically across the interface in input fields, buttons and progress bars.
Moreover, the dark interface reinforces the prominence of the bright red colour which wouldn’t have stood out as much on a regular white background (and saves you some battery power in the process too!). With the exception of the logo, all the other highlighted elements actively guide users through the signup flow steps and provide feedback as to a) where they are in the flow and b) what they should do to complete their tasks.
The result? A streamlined signup flow that makes creating an Airbnb account a walk in the park.
Neumorphism and dark mode: a match made in heaven? We’d love to hear what you think!
